The works of the game would involve the players marking from 1 to 20 spots on their ticket. Then a machine of some type selects 20 balls out of 80 at random. Each ball is marked with a number from 1 to 80 therefore the selected balls bear their own number. The 20 specially selected numbers are then displayed on the display board and the only players who can win are those who have enough of the spots selected on their ticket which match the balls drawn. Almost every winning combination for keno has odds greater than 10:1 while most are in the 100:1 range and even beyond. Given these mechanics, it is apparent that Keno is not a game of strategy but primarily, a game of luck. Just like the lottery. All you have to do is to choose your numbers and pray for lady luck. Just one tip though, better enjoy the chance for the big payoffs. Sometimes, that’s all you’ll ever get, that idea of a slim chance. This game originated from Chinese immigrants who came to the US and who used to work on the railroad in the Old West. Bringing Keno with them, this is an ancient Chinese game which was apparently invented by Cheung Leung around 200 B.C. At that time, it was made as a way to raise money for a war fund. It was so successful and popular then that it apparently was also used to fund the construction of the Great Wall as well. However, the earlier versions of Keno used characters on the body of the ticket instead of numbers 1 through 80. Those characters were then the first eighty of a well-known poem called "The Thousand Character Classic." This was used to teach reading and writing to children of China before.
